Darien Soundings

Dear Darien,

The warm summer months are flying by as town residents prepare to make the most of these next few weeks. Residents are walking their dogs around Long Neck Point, the sports fields are filled with lacrosse clinics and football camps. The summer theater and art classes are in full swing and you can see paddle boards and Opti’s sailing off of Weed Beach. Luckily, summer fun is easy to find in our community that has it all! In fact, much of the summer fun can be spent right on one of our beaches on the Long Island Sound! It’s no wonder our Town Slogan Contest winner created the slogan he did (see our Highlights section to find out what it is!).

Whether you’re looking for beach-filled weekends, or a place to spend your work-filled week days, Darien is a place for you to make the most of your summer!

FACES: Felicia Rubinstein

“When you work here, you’re not just getting an office space, but rather an entire community.” Meet Felicia Rubinstein, a former Darien resident of over 31 years and owner of HAYVN, a beautiful, light-filled, modern workspace focused on women. Felicia has always had a knack for better connecting people. In fact, the former mechanical engineer worked for large companies in her past including GE, Apple, and even her own business, 341 Studios, where she networked and promoted projects geared towards marketing and technology. When all was said and done, Felicia knew her next venture would be to promote women in business (she has literally lived it!). Alas, HAYVN had its grand opening in Darien on May 29th, 2019. HAYVN, located at 320 Boston Post Rd in Darien, was designed for women but is inclusive to all, regardless of where an individual is in their career or life.

Whether you are a professional mom looking to step out into the workforce, or a small business owner who needs a place to connect and network, there is a space for you at HAYVN. For more information on on HAYVN please visit https://hayvn.com/.

BLISS: International Club

The YWCA of Darien & Norwalk is on a mission to connect individuals through creating connections via events and activities. For years, those who moved to the area from another country were in search of common ground. The worldly backgrounds and common interests of the newcomers demanded the need for a club they could all feel comfortable and accepted in, while providing them the opportunity to network and discover their new home. Fortunately, The YWCA’s International Club quickly became the common ground immigrants desired. The International Club includes citizens of countries from around the world, Americans who have lived abroad, and others who are seeking to broaden their understanding of the world and how others live.

Joining the International Club means participating in something larger than yourself with their variety of educational and social events as well as their book club. Second only to the YW Newcomers Club, the International Club is the most active club at the YWCA. For more information please visit https://www.ywcadn.org/clubs-activities/member-clubs.
