I am so excited to announce that we’ve given the Darien Board of Realtors website a facelift! After months of hard work and dedication by the DBOR, we are pleased to announce the launch of our darienrealtors.com! The new site is live and can be found using the following url: https://darienrealtors.com/.
Amongst the new features the site contains integrated town calendars, Realtor logins, integrated social media channels, community events, school information and more! We want this website to be the “go-to” for everything Darien. If you have any event, activity or information you would like to share on the website please reach out and send an email to irene@darienrealtors.com. We hope you enjoy the new website and it’s updated look and check back regularly.
Jake’s Place, the little diner on the corner of Heights and Noroton avenue became an institution in Darien when Jeff Schoenfeld bought it in 1996. Formerly known as Schooners, Jeff and a partner needed to find a new name but didn’t want it to be either of their names, so they thought Jake’s Place had a nice ring to it! About ten years after opening Jake’s, Jeff bought out his partner and it’s been him and his team ever since.
Walk into Jake’s and you will be greeted by Linda and Silvia who run the front of the diner, taking orders and chatting with the regulars. Both have been at Jake’s for over 8 years and have become a family to Jeff along with his chef helpers in the grill. Jeff takes care of the grill and manages the orders, catering and planning specials each day.
During the week Jake’s is whipping up bacon egg and cheeses for workers, serving their famous chili to customers at lunch, and producing too many cups of coffee to count throughout the day! There are regulars who come every Saturday and meet for coffee and a chat- some who have been doing it since before it became Jake’s! On the weekends, you will find families coming in for pancakes after sports games and high schoolers getting sandwiches in the afternoon. “I’m so proud to be a part of the Darien community. I love watching the kids grow up- last week a customer took my picture to share with his grandchildren who love coming here when they are in town. That’s what it’s all about,” says Jeff. Check out Jake’s Place on Instagram @jakesplacect and on Facebook at Jake’s Place.
Beth took the reins in the fall of 2018 and has been working tirelessly on new and exciting initiatives to bring awareness to incredible programs and opportunities they offer.
The Darien Land Trust currently protects more than 200 acres of open space in town. In all, 168 acres are owned by the Land Trust and 33 acres are protected by conservation easements. All these properties will remain as open space FOREVER. The protected lands are in locations throughout Darien. From historic meadows and tidal wetlands to leafy woodlands and inland wetlands. Most of these properties are small or need prior permission from our Executive Director to access them however they provide open access to the public from dawn to dusk on three of our larger properties: Olson Woods at Heather Lane, Brookside Road at Cherry Lawn Park (behind the Nature Center), and Dunlap Woods (attached to the Town of Darien’s Selleck’s Woods nature preserve) at Parklands Drive.
These properties and others are used by different Darien groups such as the Boy Scouts, the Nature Center, the Darien elementary schools, and the Bio Blitz for walks and nature study. The DLT encourages residents to use our properties for painting, walking, birding and the quiet enjoyment of nature.
One of the most exciting events is the DLT Annual Farm to Table Dinner which will be celebrating its fifth year this August. This is the largest fundraiser for the DLT so keep your eyes out to reserve your seat at this incredible night under the stars.
The next event is our Trails Discovery Day on May 19 at Sellects & Dunlop Woods from 11-3pm. Please enjoy the nature trails, animal exhibits, music and food truck while we offer ziplining, archery and creatures of the lake! It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors and everything that the Darien Land Trust has to offer.

Welcome to @barmethoddarien, a Darien favorite for group classes that fuse ballet, barre and pilates movements! Barre workouts are safe, challenging and graceful! The exercise is suitable for people of any age due to its its low impact and small interval movements.
So, how did this Darien gem get its start? Let’s go back to the Summer of 2016 when owners, Anna and Lara’s new studio was under construction. The ladies decided to host pop-up classes to connect with Darien residents and introduce them to the world of barre. Once built, this completely women-owned small business took great measures to show pride in empowering other women, especially those right here in the Darien community. Anna and Lara stress the importance of creating a supportive community within the studio, rather than a competitive one, telling us that each woman (and man - men love barre too!) start and end class on the same note.
So what’s the workout like? Energizing, effective and safe. To that point, physical therapists are always on staff to make sure everyone gets the same great experience. For those of you who have not yet tried The Bar Method, get your FREE class with promo code - DARIEN by copying this link: http://bit.ly/2WZb2Yf. You must buy the "Free Class with Promo Code," not the "Single Class." Offer is good until June 10th!
Sunday May 19th - 11am - 3pm
Enjoy a day in the woods with the ENTIRE FAMILY! NATURE TRAILS, ANIMAL EXHIBITS, MUSIC AND FOOD TRUCK.
