Dear Darien,
As we bid farewell to another beautiful summer, we come together to reminisce on our strong sense of community and our support of one another over the past few months. We have witnessed newcomers become residents, strangers become friends, and have watched everyday residents become heroes. We want to thank our frontline workers, small business owners, and Darien residents and friends for your commitment to the well-being of our neighbors, and hope you will continue to show your support for a number of local and national causes by participating in the 2020 Census.
Did you know? September 30, 2020 is the deadline to respond to the 2020 Census. Participation by Realtors®, along with their clients and neighbors, in the 2020 Census will help secure public services and funding for schools, hospitals, and fire departments while catalyzing infrastructure improvements that will support new homes and businesses. It takes less time to complete than it does to finish your morning cup of coffee! Learn more at nar.realtor/census #RealtorsCount @nardotrealtor or visit 2020census.gov.
A cup of tea makes everything better! Join Carolyn Eddie for fall tea on Thursday, September 24th and Friday, September 25th from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Meet the owners of Darien Eyecare, Woody and Mary Armstrong! They are both licensed Opticians with more than thirty years each in the optical industry. In 2012, Hamilton Opticians which occupied the same space as Darien Eyecare, closed its doors. They both decided this would be a great opportunity to start their own business so they left their places of employment, changed the name to Darien Eyecare, and started in November 2012. As active members of the Darien community, they sponsor a boys and girls team in the Darien Little League, and love catching a game during their free time.
Bella, their Weimaraner, is also very popular at the shop as she is the people greeter. The staff at Darien Eye Care is always ready to help you get to optimal vision - all while looking fashionable! Not only do they provide all types of prescription eyewear, but they are also an Optometric practice providing eye exams, contact lens exams and general eye health checks.
Although COVID-19 has been a challenge for many small businesses, they are very thankful for the overwhelming support. “We were closed for two months from March through late May. When we re-opened the people of Darien flooded our doors with new business. We have never been so busy. We are very appreciative! We continue to grow every year and look forward to long careers in Darien. We follow all of the CDC guidelines both for our safety and the safety of our customers.”
Check out their shop located at 553 Post Road or call the office to schedule a consultation appointment!

The Town of Darien would like to extend a thank you to local heroes everywhere. Our entire country has seen the faces of the courageous men and women on the frontline of the fight and we could not be more grateful to see many of those faces in our own community. This month, we pay tribute to Katherine Mancini (pictured left) who has dedicated over 350 hours of her time volunteering for Post 53 during the COVID-19 crisis.
Katherine is an adult supervisor and helps head the OSHA team at Darien EMS. Thank you @darienpost53.
