FACES

Kit Savage is the founder of Savage Advocates LLC, which provides educational consulting services to parents of children with disabilities and related disorders. Kit is a certified executive functioning coach and tutors students to reach their academic potential. She has lived in Darien for more than 20 years and raised two children here. Kit learned early on that both of her children would need special services to learn to read and she quickly learned that she would need an advocate to ensure she understood the complex process. An advocate is a professional who has expertise in special education law, educational interventions, and can negotiate Individual Educational Programs in the public school system. In 2012, she organized the first independent support group in Darien that empowered parents to educate themselves about special education.

Since 2018, Kit has worked with families across Connecticut, New York, and nationally. She advises parents on the process of special education to ensure every parent knows their child's civil rights to an equitable education.

Kit is a trauma informed practitioner in her special education advocacy, Executive Functioning Tutoring and Yin Yoga and Meditation. Kit is a certified teacher of yoga and mindfulness meditation. She invites students of all ages to be present with their body, mind and soul. As a coach, Kit uses neuroscience to improve student’s academic performance over time. Because students often struggle daily with initiating tasks, completing homework – chronic failure can be difficult for kids to manage. Kit uses motivational coaching to build self regulation skills. As students age up in school, the demands on executive functioning skills become more complex for all kids.

Kit advises parents about the holistic connections between academic performance, self esteem, and effective services and the impact on their child’s experience in school. We are fortunate to have her here in Darien!

BLISS

The YWCA of Darien & Norwalk is on a mission to connect individuals by creating connections via events and activities. For years, people who moved to the area from another country were in search of common ground. The worldly backgrounds and common interests of newcomers required the need for a club where they could feel comfortable and accepted, while providing the opportunity for them to network and discover their new home. Fortunately, the YWCA’s International Club quickly became the common ground immigrants desired. The International Club includes citizens from many countries, Americans who have lived abroad, and others who are seeking to broaden their understanding of the world and how others live.

Joining the International Club means participating in a variety of educational and social events as well as a book club. Second only to the YW Newcomers Club, the International Club is the most active club at the YWCA.
