Private Clubs

If your passion is golfing, boating, horseback riding, swimming, tennis or just hanging out with friends, Darien has a private club that will meet your needs.

Darien is home to three private golf clubs. Wee Burn Country Club is the oldest golf club in Connecticut and among the oldest in the U.S. Woodway Country Club straddles the border of Darien and Stamford and was founded in 1916 by one-time members of Wee Burn. The Country Club of Darien was formed in 1957 and is located on land once used as a vacation retreat by the Auchincloss family.

Established in 1914, the renowned Ox Ridge Hunt Club is beginning a new chapter, changing its name to the Ox Ridge Riding & Racquet Club and remodeling or revamping many of its existing facilities. The club’s annual charity horse show each June attracts riders and enthusiasts from all over the globe and is one of the community’s biggest events.

There are two clubs for boating and sailing enthusiasts. The Noroton Yacht Club was founded in 1928 and operates one of the largest programs for young sailors in the country. The Darien Boat Club has slips for 250 vessels of all sizes and is home to more than 750 members.

Three social clubs are available for specific members. The Tokeneke Club is a beach club that offers access to a private beach and other amenities. The club originally was built in 1907 to entice people to purchase homes in the area. The Middlesex Club is a swimming, tennis and social club that opened in 1963. The Piedmont Club was established in 1916 to help Italian immigrants who arrived in the Darien area and continues today.
